The first tarmac autocross competition held in Nairobi at the Kasarani stadium has been hailed by legendary rally driver Patrick Njiru as the first meaningful step towards road safety by enabling aspiring drivers to enjoy the sport in a controlled environment.

Njiru, who drove the route opening car to ascertain the safety of drivers in the 2km dual carriageway stretch behind Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani said the initiative would revive tarmac racing last held at the defunct Embakasi circuit in mid 1980s and utilise the road network at the sports complex which can create a Formula One circuit course.
